1979 - International Year of the Child - Proof Set

In the Year 1979 the proof set and UNC Set were released with the theme "International year of the Child". Happy Child Nations Pride was the theme adopted.

Following are the details;


After 25 years of Independence and the commemorative coin that was launched in 1972; beginning the year 1973, India started issuing development oriented coins every year. The date of release was 16th August every year. The theme for every year was different with a view to promote and develop all round the country.

In the Year 1979 UNSECO declared the year as the “International Year of the Child”. The proclamation was signed on January 1, 1979. Numerous events took place within the UN and in member countries to mark the event.

India continued its Development Oriented theme to include the International Year of Child and adopted the theme “Happy Child a Nations Pride”.


Proof Set:
Coins of Rs 50, Rs 10, 10 Paise and 5 Paise Plus Regular coins of 1,2,3,25,50 Paise and 1 Rupee

  1. There is no record of the mintage numbers of 1979 proof set, I heard its low than 3000 is it correct?

  2. The Mintage as per Ravishankar sharma is about 3250 for the full proof set and about 1800 for 2 coin proof set ...
