The Key question in my mind with the a Year on the coin, will collectors also chase this. Only time will tell. 
There is also a huge premium on the price and whether someone will pay this kind of premium, only time will tell. The prices shown on the site states 5 gm for Rs. 14600, 10 gm fro Rs. 28900 and 20 gm for Rs. 57600 plus VAT and TAXES.


Gold Coin/Bullion Scheme

The Indian gold coin is a part of the Gold Monetisation Programme. The coin will be the first ever national gold coin and will have the National Emblem of Ashok Chakra engraved on one side . Initially the coins will be available in denominations of 5 and 10 grams. A 20 gram bar/bullion will also be available. Initially, 15,000 coins of 5gm, 20,000 coins of 10 gm and 3,750 Gold bullions will be made available through MMTC outlets. The Indian Gold coin is unique in many aspects and will carry advanced anti-counterfeit features and tamper proof packaging that will aid easy re-cycling.


Release Function

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launches the Gold schemes, in New Delhi on November 05, 2015. The Union Minister for Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting, Shri Arun Jaitley and the Minister of State for Commerce & Industry (Independent Charge), Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman are also seen.

  1. This is supposed to be a coin, but it doesn't have a nominal denomination (i.e. Re.1 or Rs. 500 or whatever). As such technically speaking wouldn't this be considered a "round" rather than a "coin"? Would be happy to hear your opinion on this.

    1. Technically this is not a coin as there is no value imprinted. The best term to me is bullion. Have not come across the term round.
