Dr Mahesh Sharma inaugurates Bhisham Sahni’s birth centenary celebration 

The Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge), Tourism (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr Mahesh Sharma inaugurated the Bhisham Sahni’s birth centenary celebration here today. On the occasion, Dr Mahesh Sharma inaugurated a photo and book exhibition focusing on Bhisham Sahni and also released a monograph on him. 

The Ministry of Culture with the support of Sahitya Akademi is celebrating the birth centenary of the famous Hindi writer Bhisham Sahni. 

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mahesh Sharma said Bhisham Sahni was a great legend. He further added that the Government has plans to promote Bhisham Sahni's legacy and literature across the country. Dr Mahesh Sharma also said that the Government has plans to make India as a spiritual and cultural leader in the world. He also said that a think-tank has to be formed to enrich Indian literature. 

A documentary on Bhisham Sahni produced by the Sahitya Akademi was also screened on the occasion. The event is a 3-day celebration from 8-10 August, 2015. 

The secretary of Culture and Tourism (Additional charge) Shri Narendra Kumar Sinha and other senior official of the Ministry, along with nephew of Bhisham Sahni, Shri Parikshit Sahni and Sahitya Akademi President Dr Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari were present on the occasion.

Coin to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Republic

NEW FIVE RUPEE AND TWO RUPEE COIN TO COMMEMORATE THE GOLDEN JUBILEE OF REPUBLIC

A new Five Rupee Coin and Two Rupee Coin each in Cupro-Nickel Alloy are being issued by Government of India for circulation through the Reserve Bank of India and its agencies to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Republic.

The coins will be released by the President of India in the Central Hall of Parliament House on 27th January 2001. Like the existing Five Rupee coin, the new coin will be in circular shape with outside diameter of 23 millimeters, 100 serrations and 9 grams in weight. Its metal composition will be 75% Copper and 25% Nickel with security edges. The new two Rupee coin will be eleven sided in shape, 26 millimeters in size from flat to crest and 6 grammes in weight. Its metal composition will be 75% Copper and 25% Nickel.

The obverse face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend "Satyamev Jayte " inscribed below in Hindi and it shall bear the denomination value "5" and "2" respectively in International Numeral below the Lion Capitol. It will be flanked on the left upper periphery with the word "Bharat " in Hindi on the right upper periphery with the word "INDIA" in English, on the left lower periphery with the word "Rupiya " in Hindi and on the right lower periphery with the word " RUPEES" in English.

The reverse face of the coin shall bear the national emblem in the centre with "50" in International Numerals below it. On the lower periphery it shall depict a panorama of flowing, powerful waves of a sea. On the upper left periphery the words "Gantantra ke pachas saal " inscribed in Hindi and on the right upper periphery the word "GOLDEN JUBILEE OF REPUBLIC" in English shall appear. The figure "1950-2000" shall be shown below the theme in international Numerals.

The edge of the coin shall be milled with a serrated or upright milling and security edge. In the centre of the edge there shall be a shallow groove with a design inside the two sections, separated by blank spaces. This design shall consist of chain of beads in relief and each bead being followed by one inclined line in relief. There shall be total 30 lines and 30 beads.

These coins are legal tender as provided in the Coinage Act, 1906. The existing Five Rupees and Two Rupee Coins in Cupro-Nickel Alloy weighing 9 grammes and 6 grammes respectively, now in circulation shall also continue to be legal tender.

Similarly the Proof and UNC sets were also supposed to have a Rs 50 Silver Coins with the same theme.

First meeting of the high level National Implementation Committee on Commemorations held

Year- long Commemoration celebrations of six eminent personalities to be held this year

The high level National Implementation Committee (NIC) on Commemorations held its first meeting in New Delhi today to deliberate upon the ‘commemoration schedule’ for this year. The meeting was chaired by the Union Minister of Home Affairs, Shri Rajnath Singh. The Union Finance Minister, Shri Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge), Tourism (Independent Charge) and Civil Aviation, Dr. Mahesh Sharma and Governor of Nagaland, Shri P.B. Acharya and other members associated with the celebration of commemorations were also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, the date and venue for the commemoration ceremony of the following six commemorations were discussed:-

1. Birth centenary of Rani Gaidinliu
2. 150th birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai
3. 200th birth anniversary of Tatya Tope
4. 475th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap
5. Birth centenary of Bhisham Sahni, and
6. 500 years of return of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to Vrindavan

Addressing the meeting, Shri Rajnath Singh said that these great personalities have enriched the history and culture of the country and high quality, befitting commemorations on a large scale should be organized for each one of these personalities, considering their contribution and stature.

Sh Rajnath Singh said that the message of these commemorations should not be limited to the local areas, but should be spread to the whole country as well as the whole world. He suggested that the commemoration ceremonies should be held in the national capital, Delhi along with the local places/birth places associated with these personalities. He said that the year-long celebrations should be held to organize various events related to the lives of these personalities. The celebrations of these six commemorations should begin in a phased manner between July-October this year to give enough time for adequate celebration, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Arun Jaitley said that to pay tribute to these personalities, structures like auditoriums/theatres etc should be set up at their birthplace to create permanent symbols of remembrance.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma said that the details of the activities to be carried out during the commemoration ceremonies will be worked out by the sub committees formed for each of the six commemorations.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Culture and State Government officials as well as representatives of social organizations connected to these personalities were also present in the meeting.

Sail Golden Jubilee Celebration

Shri Jitin Prasada to head Organising Committee for Sail Golden Jubilee Celebration The Minister of State for Steel Shri Jitin Prasada will head the organizing committee to celebrate the 50th year of production of steel by Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL). The high power committee includes Secretary Ministry of Steel, Shri P.K.Rastogi, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Chairman SAIL and six senior officers from the Ministry of Steel and SAIL.  The Committee will draw a roadmap for activities in the run up to the main celebrations in February 2009. The activities will include promotion of greener technology in steel plants, organizing a series of seminars, making a dedicated film on steel and releasing commemorative postage stamp and coin etc. The occasion will be used as an opportunity to showcase the growing relevance and strength of the Indian steel industry in the global scenario as India is poised to leap to a position of leadership amongst the steel producing nations. The blast furnace of Bhilai Steel Plant was fired in February 1959 by the first president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad.  The first meeting of the organizing committee will be held on Monday.  DNM/AT  (Release ID :42081)

125th Foundation Year Celebrations of National Archives of India Culminates

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (I/C) for Culture and Tourism and Minister of State for Civil Aviation launched an Emblem of National Archives of India (NAI) with Tagline; released Two Commemorative Coins on NAI - a Commemorative coin of Rs. 125/- and a Circulating Coin of Rs.10/-; released Two publications on NAI – a Coffee table book based on 125 selected documents of NAI & a book entitled “Past of the Future” based on the memoirs of people associated with NAI, at a function organized to culminate the “Year Long celebrations on 125th Foundation Year National Archives of India (NAI)” here today. On this occasion, Smt. Neeta Ghosh, a family member of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose presented a DVD containing private papers of Amiya Nath Bose, brother of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to Dr. Mahesh Sharma for preservation and consultation of same by the users.

On the occasion of Finale of 125th Foundation Year Celebrations, National Archives of India (NAI) organized a week long celebrations from 7th -11th March 2016.

Addressing on the occasion, Dr Mahesh Sharma said that it is very heartening to know that the people of 112 countries have viewed our portal “Abhilekh” launched last year to know our rich cultural heritage and traditions. He said that the celebrations of 125 years of any Institution is a memorable one. National Archives of India preserves the rich cultural heritage of our country and provides guidance to our youths and research scholars. On 23rd January, 2016 the government has made public files relating to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the National Archives of India has played a very important role in it. History is the foundation stone of any society and we explore development and good governance in the history and go ahead for future.

Shri N.K.Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Culture formally opened the finale schedule by inaugurating an exhibition entitledIndependent India: A Forward March on 7th March 2016 in the premises of National Archives of India. In this archival exhibition, mile stones of Indian history through public records have been presented which will remain open for public viewing till 8thApril 2016 from 10.30 AM - 5.30 PM.

A two day seminar on the sources of 18th and 19th Century was also organized wherein scholar and academicians from different Universities presented their thought provoking papers. Prof. Surendra Gopal, an eminent historian delivered the Foundation Day lecture on “Some Foriegn Archives and India’s History” on 10 March 2016 in the auditorium of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.

Besides a cultural programme Char Bait by the artists of Bhopal and Rampur Gharana in the lawns of National Archives of India was also organized.

1. Launch of emblem of NAI with tagline:
The emblem of NAI released by Dr. Mahesh Sharma depicts the line drawing of the facades building of set against brown colour that signifies the historical and archival character of its holdings. The tagline of Sanskrit phra वयं अभिलेखान रक्षाम: ( Vyam Abhilekhaani Rakshamah ) or We Protect Records carries the ethos of work and commitment of the National Archives of India as sentinel of nation’s documentary heritage .

2. Release of two Commemorative Coin on NAI :
A Commemorative coin of Rs. 125/- and a Circulating Coin of Rs.10/ was released by Dr. Mahesh Sharma.

3. Release of Commemorative Postal Stamp of Rs. 5/- with first day cover :
Shri L.N. Sharma, Chief Post Master General , Delhi circle released these stamps and First day cover and presented them to Dr. Mahesh Sharma.

4. Presentation of DVD of Amiya Nath Bose Papers :
The DVD containing private papers of Amiya Nath Bose, brother of Neta ji Subhas Chandra Bose was presented by Smt. Neeta Ghosh, family member of Netaji to Dr. Mahesh Sharma for preservation and consultation of same by the users.

a) A Collection from National Archives : The Coffee table book is based on 125 selected documents of NAI. This publication has been prepared under public private partnership programme (PPP) of NAI and M/s Visual Quest, Hyderabad who had earlier prepared similar books on Gandhi ji and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

b) Past of the Future: This publication is based on the memoirs of people associated with NAI. The living history of the institution has been presented in this publication.

Week long celebrations on Finale of 125th Foundation Year Celebrations of National Archives of India Commences today

On the occasion of “Finale of 125th Foundation Year Celebrations of National Archives of India (NAI) under Ministry of Culture”, a week long celebrations commenced here today. The celebrations will culminate on 11th March, 2016.

Shri N.K.Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Culture inaugurated an Archival exhibition entitled “Independent India: A Forward March (Based on Post Independence Public Records)” in the premises of National Archives of India, Janpath here today.

A two day Seminar on the “Sources of 18th and 19th Century” would be organized from 8-9 March 2016 in the Conference Hall, NAI, Janpath, New Delhi.

On the eve of ‘National Archives of India Foundation Day 2016’ on 10 March 2016, Prof. Surendra Gopal, an eminent historian will deliver the Foundation Day lecture on “Some Foriegn Archives and India’s History” at 10:00 am in the Auditorium of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.

Besides a cultural programme “Char Bait” by the artists of Bhopal and Rampur Gharana will be organized in the lawns of National Archives of India same evening.
