| Shri Jitin Prasada to head Organising Committee for Sail Golden Jubilee Celebration
The Minister of State for Steel Shri Jitin Prasada will head the organizing committee to celebrate the 50th year of production of steel by Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL). The high power committee includes Secretary Ministry of Steel, Shri P.K.Rastogi, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor, Chairman SAIL and six senior officers from the Ministry of Steel and SAIL.
The Committee will draw a roadmap for activities in the run up to the main celebrations in February 2009. The activities will include promotion of greener technology in steel plants, organizing a series of seminars, making a dedicated film on steel and releasing commemorative postage stamp and coin etc. The occasion will be used as an opportunity to showcase the growing relevance and strength of the Indian steel industry in the global scenario as India is poised to leap to a position of leadership amongst the steel producing nations. The blast furnace of Bhilai Steel Plant was fired in February 1959 by the first president of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
The first meeting of the organizing committee will be held on Monday.
