10.001 CD Deshmukh - First Issue

The first currency note of Republic India was the Rs 10 note by the First Governor CD Deshmukh. There were no other notes by CD Deshmukh after Independence. It was only the Second Governor HV Iyengar who signed the complete set of the notes in all denominations.

10.003 Benegal Rama Rau, Incorrect Hindi [Rupaya]

Hindi was introduced for the first time. There was a considerable debate as to what should be prural of Rupay, initially it was Rupaya, subsequently corrected to Rupaye
This was in issues of all denominations of the period [ie Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 10]

The size of the notes was reduced. All the notes were reduced substantially to the current sizes.
The change was less significant in Rs 1 and Rs 2 notes, but substantial in other denomination like Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 100.
