The Indian Coinage (Amendment) Act, 1975

An Act further to amend the Indian Coinage Act, 1906. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Twenty-sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

Short Title
1. This Act may be called the Indian Coinage Act (Amendment) Act, 1975.

Amendment of Section 1
2. In section 1 of the Indian Coinage Act, 1906 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in subsection (1) the word Indian shall be omitted.

Amendment of Section 6
3. In section 6 of the principal Act, for the words “ of such denominations not higher than one hundred rupees”, the words “ of such denominations not higher than one thousand rupees” shall be substituted.
Amendment of Section 21
4. In section 21 of the principal Act-
(i) In sub-section (1), for the words “ The Central Government may make rules”, the words ‘ The Central Government may, by notification in the official Gazette, make rules” shall be substituted.
(ii) For sub-section (3), the following sub-section hall be substituted, namely:-
“(3) Every rule made under this section shall be laid, as soon as may be after it is made, before each house of Parliament, while it is in session, for a total period of thirty days which may be comprised in one session or in two or more successive sessions, and if, before the expiry of the session immediately following the session or the successive sessions aforesaid, both Houses agree in making any modification in the rule or both Houses agree that the rule should not be made, the rule shall thereafter have effect only in such modified form or be of no effect, as the case may be; so, however, that any such modification or annulment shall be without prejudice to the validity of anything previously done under that rule.”
