The 3 Paise was introduced in 1964. It’s a very odd denomination and there are quite a few countries that did have a coin with denomination 3. This was supposed to take pressure off the one paise and 5 paise coins. The coin did not gain much popularity and was discontinued 8 years. The 3 Paise has the distinction of being the denomination being struck for shortest period.It also has the distinction of being the only denomination in single design. All other denomination have had multiple designs / metals.
