The Dandi March and the ensuing Dharasana Satyagraha drew worldwide attention to the Indian independence movement through extensive newspaper and newsreel coverage. The Salt March to Dandi, and the beating by British police of hundreds of nonviolent protesters in Dharasana, which received worldwide news coverage, demonstrated the effective use of civil disobedience as a technique for fighting social and political injustice
The commemorative is a fitting tribute to one of the significant landmarks in India’s freedom struggle.
Release Function:
The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh releasing commemorative coins in the memory of late Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri in New Delhi on October 04, 2005.
The Union Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram and the Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Culture, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy are also seen.

The Dandi March coins were restruck in 2012 by the Mumbai Mint. The Proof and UNC package was kept same. However the Special & Executive packages were redone ... these were is tall Glass stands.
