Part 1: This post gives the details of the commemorative coins that were put in circulation. The Initial Rs 2 coins were cupro-nickel and from 2007 the metal was changed to Stainless Steel.



1982 IX Asian Games
The first Rs 2 denomination in circulation as Commemorative was for the 1982 IX Asian Games. The mint details and Description are;




Mint: Mumbai and Kolkata
Reverse:
Sun Above, Logo Below; Cog Wheel in the Center

The 2 Rupees, 1996 Sardar Vallabhabai Patel. There was no specific occasion such as a Birth Centenary. It was more of notable leaders being recognized albeit a bit late. The mint details and Description are;

Die Varieties: Mumai Mint comes with Type C, D and E. Kolkata Mint comes in Type A, C and D Lion. Hyderabad is Only Type C and Noida is Type B.

1996 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birth Centenary, Error Coin
The 2 Rupees, 1996 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birth Centenary, was erroneously issued by the Kolkata mint. The Mint official realized this and point out the error. The actual Centenary Year of Bose is 1997. Once the mistake was realized, the coin was withdrawn. It is not known as to how many coins are still in circulation and how many were withdrawn. Taking a fancy to this, there are quite a few fakes also available. Refer to the fake coins section for more details. The actual coin was then issued by all mints in the correct year 1997.

1997 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birth Centenary
The 2 Rupees, 1997 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birth Centenary, The mint details and Description are;
A coin was also issued in the year 1996 but was withdrawn as it was realized that the Centenary year is actually 1997 and not 1996.

The 2 Rupees, 1998 Aurobindo, was released without any specific event. It was more to recognize great leaders. The mint details and Description are;
