30-Nov-2015:
With tons of fake coming out in the market for the first time in 2015, I was wondering as to why this issue was left out as it’s the most expensive coin of republic India. The lettering are a obvious give away. I haven’t given much weight to the Lion and its possible that this is more because of imaging than the Lion looking distorted.

26-Nov-2015: The 1st Constitutional Day was celebrated today. A good opportunity to release the coins on Dr Ambedkar, however looks like this will have to wait for some other day.

20-Nov-2015: Looks like its time to bid good by to the coin collecting hobby. One one had the mints are releasing huge number of issues making it difficult to keep pace. On the other hand there are tons of well made fakes coming into the market that one really needs to be very alert.
Came across this fake of 1981 Rs 100 coin on International year of Child.

16-Nov-2015: Its been nearly 2 months since the Rs 5 coins of Golden Jubilee of 1965 Operations were put into circulation. However these are yet to make it to main stream collectors or dealers in Mumbai / Kolkata / Delhi. There are a few dealers who have managed to grab this coin and are selling it for a huge premium. The question really is; are these minted in limited quantity and hence rare ... that's what most of dealers would like us to believe and pay the premium. However the reality could be a case of skewed distribution. More often than not by random method of distribution adopted by RBI centers, the coins at times reach local / rural markets rather than city centers. There is no craze in such locations and most often go un-noticed. This should be a reminder that quite a few Republic India coins that are supposed to be rare more often turn out to be skewed distribution.
__________________________________________________________________________
7-Nov-2015: Coins finally released at a very huge premium. However with a date on the coin, will this also be collected by collectors, only time will tell. Some more images here
__________________________________________________________________________
4-Nov-2015: The Govt is launching the Indian Gold Coin along with other Gold Schemes. "About 15,000 coins of 5gm, 20,000 coins of 10 gm and 3,750 gold bullions will be made available through MMTC outlets". It would have Ashoka Emblem on one side and possibly year and Indian Gold Coin on other side.

15-Aug-2015:
As an Independence day Gift, the Kolkata Mint has come up with the Adv for bookings of the following Sets. The Bookings are open from 17-Aug-2015 to 17-Oct-2015.
1. 175th Anniversary of Tata - Proof at Rs 3893 and UNC at 3440.
2. Swami Chinmayananda - Proof at 3878 and UNC at 3419
3. BHEL - Proof at 3434 and UNC at 2975
Strangely the price of Swami Chinmayananda set is cheaper than Tata. Looks like it's cheaper to strike a Rs 10 coin vs a Rs 5 coin :). The BHEL Rs 50 coin is going to be lighter than usual silver coins.
Refer to Coin Booking for more details. As usual you can book the coins via demand draft and post it, or online via the mint website at http://igmkolkata.spmcil.com. If you are a first time Please read the article here.
